Genetron Systems ‘Short Notes’ – “Umbilicals”
The main ecosystem consists of a combination of Living
Wall, Water Wall, Mesh Wall, “Breathing Wall™” TM,
Waterfall, Cork Tree, Land, Shoreline and Water; with a sump in the equipment
room, close to the main ecosystem. There is also a reservoir for demineralized,
‘RO’ / rain water in the equipment room.
From this sump in the equipment room, we can supply/feed
the “umbilicals”, that are pumped out to, with system water and recycled by
draining back to the system sump (sump pumps can be additionally used where
gravity draining to the sump can not be achieved).
The objective of the ‘umbilicals’ is to create multiple
smaller healthy living ecosystems throughout the building – including remote
locations, so that a person feels like they are living inside a living body with
veins and a heart/pump, pumping out fresh blood/water and taking back spent or
used blood/water to be purified and oxygenated.
Instead of a normal HVAC system pumping out inefficiently,
thousands of cubic feet per minute of air ( not necessarily fresh ), now a ¼” or
½” line can pump out a few gallons of ‘hungry’ fresh water per hour, to absorb
all the carbon dioxide and pollution, while releasing oxygen back into the
space.
With a large enough main ecosystem and its ‘umbilicals’,
throughout a space, a building can be totally sealed and have fresher air
inside than outside.
With no or very minimal air recirculation, all that is
needed within each area are ceiling fans, for air movement to allow for adequate
transpiration of the plants --- this is how plants ‘breathe’! This is also how
the spent air passes by the ‘umbilical’ ecosystem to help absorption into the
water.
Examples of ‘umbilicals’ are:
1) Planters
2) Breathing Wall™
3) Fish Tanks
4) Fish Tanks
with plants growing out of the top
5) Mini
Ecosystems --- like the main ecosystem
6) Water Walls
7) Mesh Wall
ecosystems
8) Hanging
Babylonian drip gardens
9) Etc. ---
whatever the mind could imagine……..
Of course, the Breathing Wall™
‘umbilical’ is the most aggressive air rejuvenating system of all the ‘umbilicals’,
while perhaps, it, itself , being the least processor; bringing more
pollutants more quickly to drain back to and be handled by the main system.
Other ‘umbilicals’, while more passive, process most or all
pollutants on location; only being reinforced and supported by the main system.
Naturally, if these ‘umbilicals’ need to deal with high loading, the whole of
the system should be larger.
Requirements for the ‘umbilicals’ are: a ½” feed line and a
¾” -1” drain line/pipe back to the sump. These can drain to a 1 ½” drain pipe to
the sump in series. If there are a large enough number of ‘umbilicals’, then the
main drain pipe to the sump may need to be a 2” pipe.
Each ‘umbilical’ needs an electrical supply; mostly for
lighting but also to drive a fan or ceiling fan.
Where plants are placed on desks or need to be moved
around, we have “satellites”. These are separate unites not connected to the
main system, but have a large water reservoir and are watered with system water
only; once a month.
This way, every plant expression/system contributes to the
air quality. In fact, we want to discourage potted plants in soil altogether,
because of the amount of toxic pollutants that are released by the putrefying
soil of these potted plants----creating unnecessary work and loading of the
ecosystem----necessitating a much larger system to handle the additional
loading!
